Harlem: 2167 Frederick Douglass Blvd, New York, NY 10026. 115 grams (1/2 cup or 1 stick) unsalted butter, room temperature 90 grams (1/2 cup) brown sugar 50 grams (1/4 cup) caster sugar or granulated sugar 1. Levain Bakery: Upper West Side: 167 W 74th St, New York, NY 10023. So next time you pay a visit to Levain Bakery, make sure to grab a few of these goodies, as well as the chocolate cookies. The raspberry jam is the perfect filling as it’s not too sweet and tastes homemade. I fell in love with the wonderfully soft and pillowy bread, which doesn’t feel heavy on the stomach at all, and is actually (believe it or not) low in fat and sugar. The owners of Levain decided to create their own version after eating them in Florence, Italy. Cool on the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Bake at 325☏ for 11-14 minutes (see Notes). Drop the cookie dough into 15 rounded scoops onto the prepared sheet, and flatten slightly. Similar to the Italian doughnut, the Bomboloni, Levain’s Bomboloncini is baked, not fried, and contains a seedless raspberry jam and is dusted with powdered sugar. Preheat the oven to 325☏, and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. My latest addiction (I had two in one week!) is the Bomboloncini ($2.25). Full of plump blueberries, this muffin is to die for, with a delectable crunch thanks to the sanding sugar on top. Add flour, cornstarch, oats, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon. Cut the cold butter into cubes, then add to the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment. These regularly sell out, so be sure to grab one early in the day. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper. While you’re there, don’t skip the Blueberry Muffin ($3). Send decadent cookie gifts now or visit one of our NYC bakeries. The Oatmeal Raisin is rich and buttery, with the signature chewy center and is full of juicy raisins. Famous for our 6-ounce chocolate chip walnut cookie, Levain Bakery has something for everyone. Big mistake on my part! This cookie really holds its own, alongside the chocolate versions (there’s also a Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip, and a Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip). But for whatever reason, I’d never tried the Oatmeal Raisin cookie ($4). Ever since I moved to New York City back in 2012, I’ve been enjoying Levain’s famous monster cookies.
